Good thinking :)The transition between 'a' and 'u' is too distinct there, but it's close. The 'a' would sound a little bit more like a mix of an 'a' and an 'e' the way it is pronounced in 'especially'. Hard to describe, and I do a pretty lousy job at it, sorry

yepp, and that is probably how he wants us to pronounce Smaug too, although since it's such a deep rooted norwegian word and it basically means the same, it'll be hard for us to pronounce it any other way.

The second one is closest to how I pronounce it, which is halfway between Smog and Smowg. (with "ow" as in "how"), pretty close to Tolkien's supposed 'loud' sound.

erm. there is an icelandic and norwegian translation there... the american is shit. they pronounce assgard as in butt-gard. jesus.

i was thinking of the vowel sound, but the Sch-german sound thing is also terribly wrong. don't do a peter jackson.
