Re: thranduil
I'm not entirely sure what the implication of the Shadowfax scene was intended to be, but they already had Faramir off the pyre and there was really no reason or need to light Denethor on fire as opposed to just stunning him (as Gandalf had done earlier). I guess you could argue that it was an accident, but Gandalf certainly didn't seem to mind that Denethor was about to die, nor did he try to save him.
Re: thranduil
I thought, in all honesty that, Gandalf urged Shadowfax on to hit Denethor ?

Re: thranduil
Not a private joke, a forum joke.
Peppermint is the distinctive aromatic smell left behind when someone uses encryption brackets {{{}}}, or in Figgs case (((()))) as she can never find the right keys
As obviously only intended recipients can read encrypted messages, the peppermint odour is a persons only clue who cannot read it that its there (Daves smell a bit of cranberries and suspicious carrots too).
In this case due to the peppermint in the air and my inability to see any secret messages I am therefore suspicious, that and the giggling.

Re: thranduil
I started seeing Lee Pace in a lot of stuff and then I realized he was in the Hobbit so I got excited. I think he's a little over-dramatic with his line delivery, like he's trying really hard to seem like a pompous snob, but he's my favorite part of the films, just because his character is the most developed. His costume is cool, he's kind of 3 dimensional (he's got 2 sides to his personality at least, unlike his son who is an action figure...) and I think he's gorgeous!! Then PJ pissed all over it with the scar. It was going so well! Then there's that. In fact, the movie went downhill from that point in my opinion.
The only reason I'm looking forward to BOFA is him. That and I want to see the 3 inappropriate hotties die.

Re: thranduil
The extreme hatred that the wood-elves of The Hobbit movies have for orc-kind is annoying.
They possess absolutely no regard for them, and treat them like bugs they can squash willy-nilly. In fact, the pace of the action sequences suggest that it is as easy for the Silvan elves to kill an orc as it is for them to slap a mosquito.
The thing is, though, that despite the "cold fury" (or whatever) that the elven army is described as showing towards the orcs during the Battle of the Five Armies, there is an earlier passage that describes how elves are slow to kill any living thing. The passage, which I am unable to find at the moment due to my book being lost, says something like how the giant spiders are the only creatures towards whom the elves show no mercy.
Unless I'm remembering all this quite wrongly, this would suggest that Leggy and Taurly leaping around the landscape as Middle-Earth's very own extermination squad is patently non-elven. And rather offensive to boot.

Re: thranduil
I remember that passage Forest, and it kind of reminds me of PJ killing things for the sake of killing things (Mouth of Sauron, Denethor, almost Gollum!) in the previous films. He's making them assassins and is justifying it by saying it's to help the good guys. Thrandy shouldn't have killed that orc, but honestly I didn't think twice until I read everyone's comments. The orcs are so one dimensional in these films that I don't care at all about them. So if one dies (regardless of whether it was just or not) I can't bring myself to care. But if the elves kill willy-nilly, what makes them any different than the orcs?
