Me too- and Moffat will be free from the end of Summer/Autumn as all the Who should be finished filming by then and be ready for broadcast.

Maybe its getting the actors is the problem  Shrugging

here's the source btw http://tv.uk.msn.com/news/gatiss-no-more-sherlock-until-2016-1
Mark Gatiss has confirmed Sherlock is unlikely return until 2016 because of the busy schedules of its stars.
The co-creator of the hit BBC TV drama - who also stars as Sherlock's brother Mycroft - told the Metro it will take two years to get the fourth series made, as Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are so in demand.
Mark said: "Everyone wants to carry on doing Sherlock. It's a simple matter of schedules - particularly Benedict and Martin.
"They've become superstars, which is brilliant, but we all want to carry on as long as we can.
"There was suddenly a kind of outraged response that it might not be back until 2016 but that's precisely how long it always is. It's always two years! But we'd like to return soon, of course."
Writer and actor Mark admitted Benedict, 37, had managed to turn the character of eccentric detective Sherlock into a sex symbol.
He said: "Sometimes the right man and the right part comes along and they fuse.
"I think there is something about Sherlock Holmes, which has possibly always been the case - there's a kind of unapproachability about him. He's not interested in sex... apparently. So you immediately get that Mr Darcy thing going on.

Maybe they're going for another January 1 premiere. So long as it's not a longer gap than between series two and three I guess it's not so bad. Shrugging This is kind of what I expected before the announcement that they were trying to hurry things, anyway.

Something I had wondered about in Sherlock which has become a feature of it- his Mind Palace- has always sort of nagged at me a bit. I couldn't place where it came from, it didn't seem like a 19th Century notion and I couldn't think where in the original stories it came from, and I had put it down to a modern injection into the tales. An invention of Moffat and Gatiss.

But last night I was rereading A Study in Scarlet and when Watson finds out Holmes seem to know very little about certain things, and is astonished to find that Holmes does not know the earth goes round the sun Holmes goes into an explanation of what he calls the 'brain attic'- saying 'I consider that a man's brain originally is like an empty attic. And you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose. A fool takes in all the lumber of every sort that he comes across, so the knowledge which might be useful to him gets crowded out, or at best is jumbled up with a lot of other things, so that he has a difficulty in laying his hands on it. Now the skilful worker is very careful indeed about what he takes in to his brain attic. He will have nothing but the tools he needs to do his work, but it means he will have a large assortment all in the most perfect order. It is a mistake to think that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent. Depend upon it there comes a time when for every bit of new knowledge you forget something you knew before."

I do believe this passage on the 'Brain attic' is where Sherlock gets its Mind Palace concept from.

yeah, it is also a memory technique, although there is some debate on whether or not it works .

another reference in the modern sherlock, is that he says basically about the attic, although he calls his brain a hard drive.

Yeah, I remember that part from the book.  Nod

I always liked the concept, though I'm not sure I believe it's really true that you clog your mind up with unecessary information.

I always find it easier when reading these articles to look away from the headline and journalist blurb.

I can't really see him saying it will deifintely be 2016. The way i read it he says;

He noticed there was some shock and consternation when people heard it was possible Sherlock wouldn't be back until 2016, but that's how long it normally takes. They would like to get back as soon as possible, but Martin and Benedicts scheduels are a problem.

So while it makes 2016 a more likely possibility, I feel it still only comes across as a possibility. That's how I read it, at least.   Shrugging

And I still love this Sue Vertue quote from earlier:  Very Happy

They want to do more. It’s just trying to get everyone free, at the same time. That’s just what I’m doing now. Benedict said, “I’m free in February,” and I said, “But, we haven’t got a script!” I’m working on it.

The mind palace is actually an ancient memory technique known as the "method of loci" going back to the Greeks: you imagine yourself walking through a palace, with different locations having items grouped in ways to help you remember them. A series of things to be remembered are remembered as things you see on a walk through your mind palace.

I love that quote by Benedict; "I'm free in February." Laughing  It's almost so I wish they had thrown everything together in half a month, because that kind of enthusiasm should be rewarded.
