Sorry, Forest. Laughing I know acronyms can go overboard sometimes, yeah. I was referring to the A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF) series, which includes the books A Game of Thrones (AGOT), A Clash of Kings (ACOK), A Storm of Swords (ASOS), A Feast for Crows (AFFC), and A Dance with Dragons (ADWD), as well as the forthcoming The Winds of Winter (TWOW) and A Dream of Spring (ADOS). All are written by George RR Martin (GRRM), and were adapted into a TV series called Game of Thrones (GOT), which airs on the Home Box Office (HBO). Very Happy

Hints:
1. If I said the author known for this, it would practically be giving away the answer.
2. Many elements of said story, or at least very well-known things about this author, are right there in the wording. (Minus the tundra bit, which was me trying to flesh it out more.)
3. Haha, these aren't really hints after all.  Razz  Razz

Eddings? He's the only other fantasy author I can think of who talks about wolves as much as Martin. Though I might be focusing too much on the "calls the pack" part.

Is it a fantasy author, btw?

ok moar Tolkien stuff

whispers in the air
rumours of the fair
tales of kingdoms lost
withered with the frost
all is dead and gone
memories dry as bone
once silver bells
rang over the fells
once all was green
fit for Elven queen
alas they wandered far
under moon and star

Ok, I'm thinking something relating to Valimar because of the silver bells thing. But then the destruction of the two trees of the Valar by Ungoliant doesn't really lead to something like what this riddle seems to describe.
I mean I don't know what the answer is even supposed to be. The whispers? The place that was green? The elven queen? The "They" that wander far under moon and star?

My own personal "crabbit" over this vagueness is largely due to the fact that I don't know Tolkien well enough to even give myself a chance at solving this. However, perhaps a hint would be good to help narrow down exactly what we're supposed to be looking for here.
Thanks muchly Mrs. Figg!

Wow, a great riddle somehow got buried for more than a week.

Sort of sounds like the Rangers.

I'm wondering if 'worthy of an elven queen' means one lived there or it was just a splendiferous place.
