It's kinda spoilery, but the winner was A Beautiful Mind, in which
- Spoiler:
- The protagonist is psychotic and a number of characters in the film are actually hallucinations.

Re: Oscar Watch
So the Oscars are tonight. I probably won't watch it live since the ceremony is always really long, but I'm always curious to see who wins. The way it's shaped up The Hobbit doesn't seem to be a favorite in any of the three categories in which it was nominated. We'll see soon.
Re: Oscar Watch
I see "Life of Pi" is nominated quite a bit, after watching that film I hope it does well, I wouldnt be surprised if Emmanuelle Riva gets best actress for "Amour, but I did like Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings". I dont really have high hopes for "The Hobbit" in all honesty, do you ? The Hobbit didnt get a bafta for Visual effects, or sound, or Make-up. you could say the Baftas arent always a clue to the Oscars, but I think this year it will be !

Hobbit crushed. Lost to Life of Pi, Les Miserables, and Lincoln.
I wonder what they're doing at the TORn Oscar Party now.

Re: Oscar Watch
I saw approximately 5 of the films nominated for anything. And that may be an exaggeration.

Re: Oscar Watch
I've seen a few more than that but not all of them. I have seen Argo though and I don't think it was anywhere close to being the best movie of the year. I'm not surprised it won though; it's a simple, feel-good movie that is merely dressed up as something more complex and weighty. It was also a "safe" choice since the most significant controversy around the film was whether it was unfair to Canada.
Re: Oscar Watch
Anyway, the narrative for the Hobbit apologists is that TH will be awarded for the trilogy as a whole after TABA comes out in 2014, "the same as with ROTK". The problem with this narrative is that FOTR, despite being the first Rings movie and one of the first fantasy movies to get serious consideration, was nominated for 13 Oscars including Best Picture, and won four. TH:AUJ was nominated for three technical awards and won absolutely nothing.
It's possible that TABA will pick up a few technical awards as compensation for the trilogy, but I cannot see it sweeping anything. We'll know in two years, I guess.

Re: Oscar Watch
Exactly!
I've still got some hope that with all the feedback PJ&Co have gotten, they'll do a better job with the editing of DoS. I'd love to see a Smaug worthy of a technical award. I think Cumberbatch and Weta have it in them if they're serious about it.
And to be fair, even if AUJ had been everything we'd all have liked, it still would have been a long shot for Best Picture. The Academy has always had a prejudice against sequels and prequels.

Ayup All...
Well, it looks like Jacksies 'Punishment' and subsequent Humiliation is all but complete. with not a sniff of ANYTHING. (surprise,Surprise !). It just Shows the power of the Awards Committee and the press. No doubt Jacksie will issue some 'Well, we don't care anyway, we make movies for the 'Fans'' (whoever THEY are) statement, and he'll be looking to scoop the set in two years for the Trilogy overall, if he doesn't piss the Academy off again in the meantime. But I'll bet Warners are still pissed about it getting sweet Feck all for all that outlay...
Still, I'm sure PJ will find solace inJames Camerons arms on the set of Avatar 2, and pick up some reflected glory if Cameron wins Big using PJs Technology... And then He'll say something like ' This is the future of Film, told you so'...
I'll bet their Oscar party was Quiet too... LOL.

Re: Oscar Watch
did the Hobbit get any awards? not even technical? well I am not surprised cos it was boring as heck. I thought it looked more technically advanced 10 years ago, and watching LOTR today makes me realize how extraordinary it was and still is today. Its still the most beauutiful film I have ever seen, unlike AUJ which was stale and stagnant and a load of misguided confused cheap and nasty boredom.

Re: Oscar Watch
yep, only An Unexpected Party and Riddles in the Dark were up to snuff, though I think Balin's homage to Thorin with backstory was nicely done.

Re: Oscar Watch
I LIKED looking at how the Dwarves once lived, I LIKED the enormous statues guarding the outside, LIKED the look of the inside, but thats all thats stayed in my mind, there was nothing I LOVED. I cant even say I LOVED or even LIKED the scenery !! I didnt even like Rivendell !! & I SHOULD have ! I should have been in awe of all these things ! They were exceptional in LOTR but I felt "flattened" or "let down" this time round. Bloody PJ said how technology had improved & that things would be better, more this & more that. Like Hell ! Azog is prime example. If PJ thinks that Azog flies the flag for uber technology then PJ is more senile or deluded than his Mrs has got the guts to tell him ! Im GLAD TH didnt get even the drippings off my nose in winter! & to wait until the trilogy is complete before any awards are banded out is safe hedging & proves to me that TH isnt as "awsome" as PJ bragged, Id like at the end of this to "eat my hat",but, thinking someone will be dishing out anti-depressant pills to PJ instead. (while still egging PJ on with words of "your still a genius, its THEM,the critics dont know what they are talking about! your still the best!" repeat prescription please nurse!")
