Happy New Year!!!

And the new year is upon us!!   

It sounds like a war-zone outside my house! Cripes!   

No fireworks in the neighborhood; I guess we used them all up over Fourth of July. I got to have my New Years' tradition of complaining about Jenny McCarthy while New Years Rockin' Eve is on in the background and drinking sparkling cider while all my relatives get drunk. And also hacking up phlegm every five minutes. Bring on 2016!

I spent New Year's eve in the Mexico City Airport (enroute from Costa Rica), where the bar "se abierta para 24 horas" was closed for the holiday.

The only place open in the whole airport was a 7-11, and I managed to find at the bottom corner of the beverages a Tecate beer, the only alcohol in the whole blamed terminal.

So that was my new year's eve, though the week before that was pretty cool.

Im at home, in my pyjamas,eating a big bowl of cereal & didnt touch a drop all Christmas Ive eaten enough chocolate to feed a battalion tho

There was plenty of bucky during the tour.  My parents wanted to see Costa Rica before they died, and plopped down a wad for the kids to go along.  I should recapitulate in the vacations thread, but since we are on the topic here I'll just lay out two places we had open bars with tropical bucky flowing like fountains. These trips are usually planned around old geezers who need some creature comforts as they hobble about and a barrier against the local bacteria communities. Now mind you, I disagree with 4 and 5 star hotels just on principle: I didn't travel halfway around the planet just to sit in a damn hotel, no matter how swank.  But if someone else is footing the bill....



So this was a beach front hotel with a pool that meandered clear through the premises.  You may wonder why a beach front hotel needs such a big pool, but that's before low tide hits and you see the rocks.  The only thing to do at night is sit in a lounge chair with a drink in your hand listening to the surf mingle with the mood music they pipe in, which isn't so bad for a night or two so long as someone else is paying for it.



And here was a rooftop bar of another hotel, with a national forest on one side and a beach on the other.  In the morning you could hear the howler monkeys chuff, which was pretty cool.  This hotel felt more integrated into the outside world to me, so didn't feel so chagrined at being shoehorned into a glitzy place surrounded by ex-pats and no local culture.

Nice indeed Halfy- but no bevvy on Hogmanay is still no bevvy on Hogmanay- unthinkable!

That sounds like a great time Halfy, particularly with someone else paying.
