This a place to discuss things arty. Art itself, how do make it and pc programs to help.

My personal favourite top free useful programs are;

I know my way reasonably well about most of these except Blender which I am new to, so if anyone needs any help (and I know the answer!) feel free to ask. I'm sure there's a few programs I'm missing from those lists but they will come back to me.

Terragen 2 for planets and asteroids. Alien ship model free object download. Light flares and edging done in Gimp as post work. Nasa for the backdrop!

I'm not very good with art stuff myself, and the only programs you mention that I have are GIMP and Open Office. I mainly use OO for word processing and spreadsheets, though.

Thanks Eldo- but the beauty of PC art is it looks better than the work required to produce it! Although it can be a bit time consuming sometimes- that was about 3 hours to set up and about 10 to render.

To be honest Eldo I was struggling to think of a time I'd used OO for anything arty- but its such a good free program in the face of Microsoft Words domination I thought I'd include it just to give it a plug. I couldn't go back to Word, I've been using OO for years now.

Blender's excellent, but extremely hard to learn at the start I found. Spend a few weeks here and there using it, following some step by step tutorials, and now I could probably create something on my own. Not anything good mind you! Might have forgotten all I learnt by now though, been using Dreamweaver a lot for school, along side Adobe Flash & After Effects! Oh the joys of being an IT/Media student!

Adobe premier and After Effects are great I did my LotR edits with those. Very easy to quickly manipulate video with filters and lighting etc- only down side is it outputs raw data so dvd quality sound and vision is about a gig of space for every 10 mins you output!

Seems a good place to stick this. The Anduin pic animated, a bit, was more of a test really to see how long it would take my new pc to do.

Crazy! You should joing the Weta crew petty!!!!! (And it would be a perfect way to get everything perfect, right under PJ's nose!)

Thanks Tin. Sadly I'm jut an amatuer, but boy would a love a go on WETA's rendering programs! Watch me soar!!

Made a short video to demonstrate for Mrs Figgs how to use the clone brush to remove things from photos.
Its a bit glitchy, recording troubles, but you can see whats going on still.
I'm using gimp for this, but its exactly the same in photoshop. Even the clone tool symbol is the same.

I looked and looked (and yes, your work is excellent as usual, Petty) but I couldn't find my video amongst them... Was I looking in the wrong spot?

These earn me money! So may be a little further up the immdeiate priority list! But slow as progress may be your video is still ongoing at regular intervals I promise. (it takes about 3 days to render out less than a minute of the animation for your video- now if you want to buy me a bank of processors and fund a render farm for me I'd be delighted and will have it finished in no time- please do!)

It's not got that serious that you want me to offer financial assistance? Quite outrageous! Can't be true, surely! I feel that I'm doing you the favour! I could be wrong about that, of course. I was wrong about something once... until I realized I was mistaken - boom boom.

I never joke about asking for money! But surely you dont expect me to open my sporran to fund quicker progress on your video?
And I'm afraid if a fully funded render farm is not to be forthcoming then you will just have to wait!

Open your sporran? How on earth, having known you this long, could I have even formed that thought? Actually, I'm amazed you did! And if you're suggesting I can send you this 'render farm' thingee... Oh petty I LOVE your photos, I am afraid all those programs I have never heard of having only done rendering with poster paints and a brush haha! I really like Anduin and the flowery garden, I really wish you would do Lothlorien, you know the bit where Arwen is buried, cant remember the name, anyway the centre of Lothlorien where time seems strange and there are huge mallorns, that would be wonderful to see.
