I just found a trailer for this on YouTube and it looks like it has a lot of potential. Laughing My family has been discussing the prospect of getting NetFlix (which is sponsoring the show in the U.S.) and this seems like another reason to go for it to me. If I get a chance to watch it I'll share my thoughts. Smile

It will give you a unique insight in the Fjordlandian (well, wrong-side-of-the-mountains inlandian) culture and traditions. Just tell your mom it's educational!

I signed up for NetFlix (first month free, how could I resist? Laughing) and watched the first several episodes of Lilyhammer tonight. It was kinda silly at times but I laughed consistently throughout and enjoyed watching it. NetFlix already has the rest of the first season so I'll try to get through them over the next few weeks. All in all a really fun show that came out of nowhere for me. I'd never heard of it before it came up on this forum. Very Happy

Glad you liked it. I have only seen the first episode myself, but I plan to see the others too. Very silly and funny stuff. Smile

There is also going to be an american version of "Dag" on Fox. It's a dark comedy, Dag is a couples counselor who believes it is best to be alone. Laughing Sorry to say I haven't seen any episodes of this, but people seem to like it. Perhaps the Americans will too.

One of the things I like about the show so far is that each episode builds on the preceding ones. They're all self-contained to some extent but each picks up where the previous episode left off and the characters develop continuously (so far anyway). I tend to like more coherent shows like that so it's a nice touch for me. Smile

Also, thank you Fjordlandians for telling me about this show! cheers

Surprisingly, yes, they have the first five seasons of NuWho (starting with Eccleston and going through Smith's first season) available online! They probably have more on DVD but that's an additional fee.

I caught the end of Lilyhammer's first season tonight. It was a lot of fun, if also kind of sad at places. I particularly liked that

Spoiler:

I'm curious to see the second season when it comes out. Smile

I've only seen episode 4 so far. (But I had to sneak a peak at your spoiler.) It is a quite truthful, honest series though exaggerated for comedy of course. Got to love Geir-Elvis though. Laughing

'It will come as a shock to American audiences to see the severe alcoholism and political corruption, the gambling and the abject poverty that defines the Norwegian culture. These are a lonely, bitter people who know nothing of Jesus Christ. They look sickly from the dark, snowy weather. The children grow up without fathers and the women have sexual intercourse with any man who crosses their path.'-
Shocked Thats just unbelievable- can a country sue for slander?

'Since World War II, they have been a nation of appeasement and weakness. Most live off government assistance and theft'- oh dear!

'He has fantastic teeth, which is quite unusual for the Norwegians'- oh dear oh dear

'the obscure and difficult language its characters speak. It is harsh and crude, sounding almost like an alcoholic burp interrupted by an attempt to vomit a heavy fried fish meal. Watchers in America will undoubtedly find the Norwegian way of speaking both offensive and laughable'- this gets worse and worse!

'the environment of Norway is another poor choice. It is so desolate and gruesome'- really? I mean, really?!

'For adults, it has a limited educational value as an example of what poverty-stricken European socialism truly looks like. It is sad to witness a once great nation fall into a pit of corruption and alcoholism.'- I want to hurt the author of this quite badly now! Twisted Evil

Lol, Petty, I was just thinking the same thing! lol!
I guess the May edition will just be a cut and paste from there, replacing some names with "ambassador Amarië".

"They eat small portions of food and are usually so poor that they must fish in frozen ponds for their next meal."
Spot on! cheers

But it must be fake though, right? You can't use that picture of Sven Nordin and be serious at the same time. Shrugging Laughing

I can never tell when people who claim an invisible super being tells them what to do are being serious or not!

-but judging from the authors replies in the comments below the article he is being serious! Shocked

I hope he does one on Scotland- wonder if he's ever reviewed 'Trainspotting'! Very Happy

Christwire is no more "genuine reporting" than The Onion or The Daily Show. If you liked this, try Landover Baptist too. Laughing

Yes, it's satire. They're just very serious about staying in character, even when talking about "accusations" that they're satirical. Razz
