I think we'll get WoW but someone else will have to finish A Dream of Spring based on some fragments he'll have written and an outline (though he doesn't really outline the show gives some pointers). It will never be accepted as canon.

Hmm, that depends - The Wheel of Time series' last book was finished by another author (though he had lots to work with), and the vast majority of fans were satisfied. If it comes to that, it all depends on which author and how much material he/she is given to work with, I guess. But it can be done very well

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
GRRM has seen the pilot for House of the dragon and loved it.
From https://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/
The new year is almost at hand, and with it will come all manner of new television shows, on network, cable, and streamers.
I have got to confess, I was chuffed to read that the most anticipated new show, according to IMDB, was…
(drum roll, please)
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON!
https://movieweb.com/house-of-the-dragon-imdb-most-anticipated-original-tv-series-2022/
That’s a hell of a list to be at the top of, too. Amazon’s new Tolkien series? Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN? Marvel shows? STAR WARS shows?
Good company.
I am anticipating HOUSE OF THE DRAGON pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book). Also … mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone… I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy.
Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with GAME OF THRONES, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them. (Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling).
I think the Targaryens are in very good hands.
Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
So GRRM released a picture of the showrunners and writers for House of the Dragon. He showered praise on them in his not a blog website, but I can't help feeling that they look so young. GRRM's writing did not come from youth, it came from experience, and I fear this show will suffer as a result of a writing team who hasn't suffered enough or screwed up enough to learn some humility and wisdom.

No real reaction. I was annoyed by the modern hairstyles in the front picture before I watched it, but thankfully that was an aberration. Some stuff in there looks good but I can't tell what's going on. And "History does not remember blood....it remembers names." : what the hell? Is that supposed to send a shiver down my spine? It starts out great and then fizzles. Let's try rewriting that baby, shall we?
"History does not remember blood...it remembers conquest."
"History does not remember blood...it remembers fire."
"History does not remember how much blood flowed...only who won."

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
Uhh yeah the last line is half-baked.
Sick of this feminist-queen nonsense. What are the writers modeling the setting's system of governance on that a Queen Regent or Queen Regnant is abhorrent to the nobility?

Yep, Elizabeth I should quash that thought; in fact I don't recall that there ever was complaint about her being a woman. It was all about religion.

It was all about her being the only surviving child of the Tudor king. it didn't matter that she was a woman they wanted Henry's kids.

All the controversy was about catholic/protestant. What a whiplash of a country that was back then.

So there's a plan to create a sequel based on nothing GRRM ever wrote, using many of the actors from GOT. Talk about a money grab.

I really miss it. I know I can re-watch it any time, but its not the same as feeling the excitement with millions of other people.

Yes, I can rewatch seasons 5-8 at any time, but I'll never again reach those heady heights of scorn, loathing, and mocking contempt as when I first watched. It is rather sad isn't it.Mrs Figg wrote:I really miss it. I know I can re-watch it any time, but its not the same as feeling the excitement with millions of other people.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
Only watched it once and because of the last series I'll probably won't watch it again.
Only the odd clip here and there. Watched the Hold the Door scene at least 20 times.

There were still some good moments.
- I thought the show right before the siege of Winterfell was good. Yes, it was pure fan service, but was well done.
- The conversation between Varys and Tyrion upon being released from his crate in Essos was good.
- I'll always remember the line "your lips are moving, and you're complaining about something. That's whinging."
- Chris already brought up the "hold the door" episode.
For the most part the late episodes didn't hold together as well as the earlier ones, but there's enough there to be worth watching.
