why on earth would anyone want a UV version?

Typically sunlight is too bright to watch a movie in. If you have the special UV version, you can tan and watch a movie at the same time.

Awesome, you can sit inside all summer and one one will be able to tell! But you need a boring UV film too, or one too scary to watch, so you can get some colour on your back as well. Or get two tvs... Hmm...

Ultraviolet is just what they call the discs with a code that allows you to access a digital copy of the movie online and watch it on any computer or other device with an Internet connection (that's my understanding of it, more or less).

Petty needs a UV thingie then.

No chance. We Scotshobbits aint good in UV light. Or any sort of light really. Smoky pub interiors are about right.

Have yougot all 5 parts downloaded?

Each file is 181 mb except the 5th which is 170mb.

All together its less than a gig in size- so just make sure you have say 1 free gig of space on your computer and thats plenty.

I can really sympathize, Figgy! After fighting the same battles as you because of my ancient little laptop and my dialup connection, I finally broke down and asked Petty if he'd copy his LotR if I sent him a flashdrive. He told me what size it needed to be and I had it sent to him. He copied it as well as some other cool stuff and mailed it off to the other side of the world.

That was back in September! It took over a month by pony express for the flashdrive to reach the Pacific Northwest, and then when I excitedly plugged it into my computer, I found that it still couldn't read it! It seems I need to have Windows Vista or newer and a RAM bigger than a teaspoon.

Finally tonight I'm housesitting for a friend whose computer is only 5 years old, so I brought the Scottish Flashdrive along and finally watched part one of Petty's LotR purist edit.

I have to say it was beautiful! Not only is it nearly seamless and the image higher quality than my DVD's, but when re-edited to keep the focus on the quest, the story takes on that relentless, driving quality that I remember from reading the books under the blankets by fashlight when I was a kid. The story flows very well. I'm not sure how but Petty seems to have solved some of the pacing issues of the earlier edit (possibly with soundtrack?)

Anyway as I said, it's a nearly seamless edit. Very easy on the eyes. I'm not going to get rid of my EE LotR disks any time soon. But once I get a computer that can handle it I expect this will be the edit I go to when I just want to relax in the evening and watch LotR. It's that good!

Mrs Figg- all I can do is make each individual file for you to download really small- like 50 meg small and see if that works- downside to that it there will be absolutely loads of tiny files to download rather than a few big ones.
But Ive tried everythng else I can think of including changing the storage drive.

David- I am glad you enjoyed it so much, hopefully you will enjoy the rest of them just as much.
Working on the soundtrack last time out definetly helped a lot as did using suggestions from others (I think it was Halfy pointed ou the music when Gandalf goes to to Gondor to look at the scrolls was out of keeping with reintroduced 17 year gap- fixing stuff like that really helped I think- so thanks to everyone who has made suggestions over all the different versions of the edits, they really do make a difference and I couldnt have done the job I have without the input.)
As to your review in general David, just- thankyou.

Just finished a reedit of book1 to include stuff from Th film- well riddles in the dark, or a shortened version of it.

It makes the 'Shadows of the Past' bit quite long, like the book. But you do get the whole history of the Ring from Last Alliance to Bilbo. And the point where they leave Bag End and set off is only about 5 mninutes further into the film still than it would be if you were watching PJ's.

The sequence now goes-

Last Alliance- Isisldur gets the Ring- Elrond takes Isuldur to Mt Doom, he refuses to destroy Ring- Isildur waylaid and killed, loses Ring in river- Deagol finds Ring, Smeagol kills Deagol takes Ring, Smeagol turns into Gollum, Riddles in the Dark.

I am planning to to do a much lower quality version that just goes up to Bree so it can be watched in full context.

I would like some feedback on whether it works please, if it effects the pacing too much, if the way Riddles is edited works ect- but this is a request from ideally those who have already seen book 1- as if you havent seen book 1 you would be better watching the good quality HD version.
Ill make a post when Ive uploaded it.

I think the problem is that it downloads ok, but it wont open with the winzip thing. I get an option save or open, so I try save and open and I get a little letter thingie, it looks like a small wordpad but I dont know how to open the file, it just copies another version, but it wont open the download. its like something is missing, (its probably my brain, the missing link), it could be something I am doing wrong or missing, I dont know.

No it won't open- you need to have all the files on your pc first- it cant open individual ones- youwill just get an error message.
The first thing you have to do is dowload all of the files in TH folder.
There is only one file on thenew drive I linked you too- just to see if it was small enough for you to download- if you can download it then I will put up the rest for you so you can get the film.

But what files have you downloaded so far? What is the name of the file you are trying to open?

If so thats good.

If not you might not have winrar installed- but thats easy to fix and we dont need to worry about it until youve downloaded all the files first.

Ok- you can delete the file you have- there should be a file on that drive now- its much smaller- I am hoping you can download it without any trouble- delete the one you have and download the one thats on that drive instead and then let me know if it downloaded ok- if it does download I can upload the rest of the files for you.
