UKIP leader Nigel Farage had to find refuge in a pub after he was swarmed by angry protestors as he left a press conference.When he later left the Canons' Gait pub in Edinburgh's historic old town and was escorted into a police van, protestors chanted "scum, scum, scum".Mr Farage was in Edinburgh to launch his party's Scottish campaign.
Mr Farage told the BBC he had never had a reaction like this before.

Point by point-

Shame that, as Scotland is trying to increase not decrease it, particuarly of skilled labour. Our green energy sector and oil and gas is booming and that needs skilled workers in everything from design to engineering.
Last year was the first year in a long time that the overall population grew, but we need more people not less.

I dont know anyone in favour of this. Never heard of anyone in favour of this. Everyone Ive heard speak on the matter in Scotland, whether personal acquantance or politician or lawyer rather think its a good idea.

The smoking ban has public approval- even from smokers. Its a good thing that will help those in the future hopefully and figures seem to indicate it is already helping reduce numbers.
Those who do smoke have got used to as its been in force for nearly 7 years. Most people would think you were a bit crazy if you said 'lets have smoking everywhere again'.

Or to put in real world terms destroy our thriving economy in green energy and the manufacture and exporting of all the stuff you need to make it.
Scotland just passed its own ambitious targets for % of energy from green sources- we now produce more than 33% of all our electricity purely from green energy.
Oh and what they dont say here is the supposed replacement for this is a chain of nuclear power stations.

Firstly bad choice of person- poll afer poll shows that most people in Scotland believe Megrahi was a patsy. (Becuase he so obviously was and becuase his trial under so called 'Scottish law' was so obvious a farce, as under Scottish law any jury would have given a 'not proven' verdict on the evidence due it so clearly being not proven, but there was no jury).
Secondly, and far more importantly, the tenant of early release on compassionate grounds for a prisoner, who is facing a terminal illness with no cure, to die with his family, regardless of the crimes committed, is a corner stone of our idea of justice.
If we cant forgive them at the end and be the better person, we have no right to judge them in the first place.
Farage seems ignorant of the differences between Scottish and English law (unless he is proposing tearing out one of the founding principles of our legal system)

Oh good, so lots more people in prisons (which are already overcrowded) for some trivial offence- and if their young we will turn them into efficient, fit young thugs instead!

Thanks, sent. The paper is like half discussion of current events and half applying theories we talked about in the class, but I enjoyed writing it. We were told to look for news sources and I used a couple that were posted here (but only a couple).

The paper was a bit of a rush job but I hope it can mostly stand up.

Well Farage has changed his story- after UKIP put out a press release yesterday saying Farage took the protestors in his stride and that he laughed it off, and that it was not anti-english protests, in his own words yesterday 'I dont think they even thought that far ahead.'

Today he is alll over the press claiming he is a victim of racist, anti-english nationalism.

Not even knowing anything about Farage himself, I can't say I'm at all surprised by this development. Parties with the sort of ideology the UKIP proclaims tend to love playing the victim.
