That's a very good point Eldo. I remember an ex-con I used to work with in the cannery, on being called a rude name, explaining that "It's only gay if you take it." (Note: there were probably better answers.... :facepalm:

)

Meanwhile, well into the 19th century it was normal for several people, sometimes stangers, to share a bed for warmth(segregated by gender of course!), giving us the phrase "strange bedfellows". Clearly until Victorian times snuggling didn't count! Laughing

Laurel and Hardy- they shared a bed all the time, and as many of their early films were made during the great depression I doubt that was unusual at all.
I seem to remember Moby dick starts with the main character going to his room in the inn, where he is renting the bed for the night and sharing it with a stranger who is renting the other half.
