Thanks for the birthday wishes guys/girls/scotshobbits, had a fairly quiet day (
(Though me and the girlfriend saw that 1917 film today in lieu of on the day celebrations-a technical marvel with strong performances, gorgeous cinematography and more than a few moments of nail biting tension. The script was rather generic WW1 fair for the most part, and the central gimmick of being largely single shot was at times distracting, but overall definitely worth checking out (especially on a huge IMAX screen as we did
) I don't drink much anymore (I say typing, whilst holding one of the bottles of cider I got for my birthday
) but I can confirm much cake was consumed. Hard to believe I'm 28 already though

yep 1917 is great, I love the section like a night/day dreamscape when he is running through the ruined town at night, its haunting.

It's an ambitious shot, the crane rising up through the second story as the protagonist walks out across the square into the light of the falling flares. But as I said before in the film thread, the swell of music had a kind of undeserved, but admirable, audacity to it. It's all beautiful, of course, but the emotion isn't there in that part of the movie.
Still, I had a great time watching 1917.
