Not confirmed yet, as far as I know.

Weaving has been rumored for years but Ringdrotten is correct, he hasn't been confirmed. I think GDT said he'd come back but that was before most of the delays and at that point they didn't have contracts yet. Weaving might have decided he'd rather take other roles than wait around.

Gosh this is confusing...can't you even trust wiki's Filmography anymore...what's the internet coming to?

What if the whole (old) cast and PJ (with Coven) were lost in the smoke of a volcanic eruption (not dead, mind, just lost!), then would there be a hope of a True Adaptation?

I don't think there'd be much hope of any adaptation at that.

Sadly not- apparently they were not allowed to film at a volcano, the very one they used for Mt Doom in fact- which was a surprise as I didn't know they had used a real volcano- they did a remarkable job of making it look CG!
The other worry of course is why did they want to film there at all. Mt Doom isn't in TH and it would be useless doubling as the Lonely Mountain or the Misty Mountains. More worrying trends.

They used plenty of CGI in addition to the shots of the actual mountain, so I assume they would have done the same to make it look different for The Hobbit. The picture of it on TORn doesn't look much like my mental image of the Lonely Mountain, though it would be passable, but I hope they can find something better now.

I doubt they were planning to use it as The Lonely Mountain. My guess is that they were planning to film it when The Necromancer/Sauron regrouped his forces in Mordor after being tossed out of Mirkwood.

I hadn't thought of that, but it would make sense. I guess I'd assumed they wouldn't be showing Mordor ... since it plays no role in the book!

I didn't recognize that name and had to do some Googling. Apparently Galion is the name of the butler of the Elven-king who passed out when drinking, allowing the Dwarves to hide in the barrels. Sure enough, the name is mentioned briefly in the book, but I could only remember the character as "the butler".

Well at least they are from the book. Makes a bloomin' change.

I don't tend to rely on IMDb, not without outside corroboration. It's a lot like Wikipedia in that anyone can edit it, but as far as I can tell IMDb has lower standards than Wikipedia. TORn (which is generally reliable) has a character page for Galion but no casting rumors (yet).

Dominic Keating...never heard of him! I read Dominic and I thought it was going to be Dominic Monaghan! Who I love, especially after the "easter egg" interview with Elijah on the ROK EE!

Slap a wig on him and he'd probably look fine. It's not a very major role (or at least it shouldn't be! ). I've no idea if he can act, though he was on Star Trek: Enterprise, for what that's worth.

I've not seen all of Enterprise, it being awful and the death of ST and all, but he is ok in it, His character is dull as ditch water but he does ok in the role and he has an English accent.
I suspect he will have a slightly bigger role than the one given to that character in the book- because otherwise its a supporting artist role, mainly background with just a few lines in one scene.In fact taking this news together with Legolas appearance, the female elf and a love stroy it would seem the entire Thranduils Halls bit is getting something of a work over from the Coven. I shudder to imagine the result.

Will there be aliens played by Siourney Weaver? There was a spaceshift in Life of Brian. I say, why not? After all, the Hobbit Movies are sounding more and more like a spoof every day.
